Rosalind Bloom has three linoleum prints in "'Tis the Season", at Da Vinci Art Alliance, 704 Catherine St. The exhibition runs from December 4-29.

The opening reception is Saturday, Dec 4 from 6-9 pm. All art is for sale under $200. Handmade artists' ornaments @ $5.00.

December Featured Member Artist: Bonnie MacAllister

Bonnie MacAllister is a past President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art and has been a member since 2003. She currently serves on the International Committee and the Young Women's Caucus (an internal caucus) of the National Women's Caucus for Art. Bonnie is Performance Chair for the LIVE SPACE: women + art + activism Conference to be held in New York from February 10-14, 2011 where she has curated performances and film for an event at Raandesk Gallery in Manhattan on February 10.

Bonnie renders moments through a variety of media. Often pieces are multi-genre, fusing painting, photography, slide installations, spoken word, video, and performance. She is currently exhibiting documentary photography from her Fulbright-Hays to Ethiopia in the Jennifer Bates Memorial Gallery at GERM Bookstore. The exhibit "Coptic: Ethiopian Mysticism" examines the history, culture, and migration of the Ethiopian people, all themes that she studied at the University of Addis Ababa. She is also exhibiting in "Art for the Urban Collector" at Highwire Gallery and with the Women's Caucus for Art DC Chapter at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, MD. She recently closed "Many Entendres" at the Midwives Collective and an installation at VWVOFFKA in "Soundoffka Vol. 2", a sound art exhibition for which she received a City Paper Arts Pick.

Bonnie MacAllister is showing documentary photography from her Fulbright-Hays to Ethiopia in the Jennifer Bates Memorial Gallery at GERM Bookstore, 2005 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, 19125. This two month solo show will have openings on December 3rd and January 7th in the Fishtown Gallery.

Bonnie did a collaborative piece with Brian McClendon at an exhibition called Soundoffka Vol. 2 is an aural and visual exhibition hosted by VWVOFFKA, 2037 Frankford

Ellen Bonett: Figuratively Speaking at Holy Family University from October 26 - November 21.

“Figuratively Speaking” on Display in Art Gallery (10/27/2010)
The Holy Family University Art Gallery will host the exhibit “Figuratively Speaking” from October 26 through November 21. The exhibit features sculpture by Adrienne Marasco Rodgers and paintings, drawings, and sculpture by Ellen Bonett. An opening reception and gallery talk will be held in the Art Gallery on Tuesday, November 2, from 5-7 p.m.

Bonett focuses on figure drawing, and also experiments with recycling in sculpture, and sewing in abstract paintings.

The University Art Gallery is located in the lower level of the Education and Technology Center (ETC) on the Northeast Philadelphia campus, 9801 Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia. The exhibit and gallery talk are free and open to the public.

Contain, Maintain, Sustain is a juried indoor and outdoor exhibition hosted by Artisphere in collaboration with Washington Project for the Arts (WPA) and Washington Sculptors Group (WSG). The exhibit will feature static and time-based artworks conceived to explore sustainability as it relates to contemporary sculpture and installation practices. Artists are encouraged to widely interpret this call for submissions so that the exhibition concept will reflect the concerns of artists living and working in the Washington DC area and beyond. Selected artists will receive a stipend of $250 to assist with the execution and transportation of works.Entry to the exhibition is open to all current members of Washington Project for the Arts (WPA), Washington Sculptors Group (WSG) and arlingtonarts.org directory members. Artists who are not already members should join either organization before submitting their entry to this exhibition online.

"Manipulated"
You are invited to participate in an on-line exhibition, open to all artists.
The theme — “Manipulated” – (anything and everything that means).

The objective of this exhibition is to create artwork that demonstrates being manipulated, manipulation, and anything and everything that means!

“Manipulate” is defined as (1) manage or influence skillfully, esp. in an unfair manner: he manipulated people's feelings. (2) move, arrange, operate, or control by the hands or by mechanical means, especially in a skillful manner: She manipulated the lights to get just the effect she wanted. (3) To influence or manage shrewdly or deviously: He manipulated public opinion in his favor. And (4) tamper with or falsify for personal gain: manipulated stock prices.

Our Juror: Linda Ravenswood is an artist, writer and vocalist. She was born in Los Angeles, California and lived in Europe throughout the 1980's. In 1993 she moved to Ireland with her husband, the songwriter and music interpreter/musicologist Garrison White, to write and publish work. Her drawings have been published in the The Wilshire Review (Los Angeles, California, Volumes 1 and 2 2000). She studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, and is a triple graduate of The California Institute of the Arts in Art, Music and Theatre. She studied at several other academies worldwide, including Mount Saint Mary's College in Los Angeles. She currently is on the faculty of Occidental College, in Los Angeles.

Hidden Cities

2011 National Juried Exhibition held in conjunction with WCA and the College Art Association (CAA) Conference.

Juror: Lisa Phillips, Director of the New Museum of Contemporary Art, NYC

Theme: No matter our place in society, we all have our Hidden City, a place of refuge from gender, race, class, and sexual exclusions, a place that shapes the feminist viewpoint. Some cities, like wrapped boxes, conceal unexpected gifts, others are riddles and lyrical abstractions. These are performative spaces where we may imagine retribution for injustices, righting wrongs or conversely, delving into the dark side. Artists are invited to explore their idea of their own Hidden City, real or imagined, in an array of media. The theme may be broadly interpreted from an activist, political, or personal context. Convince the viewer of its viability, a live space filled with passion and imagination.

Entry fee: $35 for current WCA members/$45 for non-members

7th Annual WCA International Video Shorts Festival

Entry Deadline extended: Wednesday December 1, 2010 (postmark deadline)

Held annually in conjunction with the College Art Association and WCA conference. The Festival’s premier will take place during the week of the WCA conference in New York City.

First viewing: Friday, February 11, 12:30 - 2pm, WCA reception at CAA

Juror: Verena Mund is the Film Studies Coordinator at the University of Minnesota. She is a film author and curator, and has taught at several universities and art schools. She has worked for the film/video department at Walker Art Center and was Co-Director of Feminale, International Women's Film Festival Cologne, Germany. In 2009 she was member of the selection committee of International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Germany. In 2000 she co-edited Girls, Gangs, Guns. Zwischen Exploitation-Kino und Underground and in 2007 Working Girls. Zur Okonomie von Liebe und Arbeit. Forthcoming is an article on Austrian director, actress and writer Kathrin Resetarits.

Eligibility: Open to all women artists. The works must be created by women videographers, or directed/co-directed by women.

Exhibition Format: All genres will be accepted: experimental, narrative, documentary, animation, collage, etc. Entries must not exceed 15 minutes in length, should be in DVD format ONLY and cued to start. Please do not send original/master copy.

“FOTO: Pushing Boundaries” is a survey of photographic media today in the United States exploring photography that pushes the boundaries of the medium through unusual and challenging imagery, and employs creative use of either traditional darkroom processes or non-traditional processes. The juror’s criteria includes originality, innovation, and impact, as well as composition and mastery of technique of each piece of work submitted.

CATEGORIES ACCEPTED: Original artworks created through photography in 2009 & 2010 - including photographs shot with film cameras or digital cameras, scanned images, unaltered photographs, altered photographs, montages, cyanotype, photograms, and polaroid transfers. This can include straightforward subject matter, factual subjects presented in an unusual way, recognizable objects in unrealistic surroundings, or strictly abstract images.
