UArts Exhibition/Symposium: Women Pop Artists 1958-1968
The University of the Arts presents Women and Pop Art, a symposium organized in conjunction with the University's "Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists 1958-1968" exhibition, the first focused exclusively on women Pop artists. The two-day symposium features several of the artists, along with prominent art historians. Both the symposium and the exhibition aim to redefine the legacy of these extraordinary and long-overlooked artists.

"Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists 1958 - 1968" was organized by the Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery at the University of the Arts. This project, along with a documentary film by Glenn Holsten, has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative, with additional support from the Marketing Innovation Program. Additional funding for the film is generously provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Dolfinger-McMahon Foundation and the Quaker Chemical Foundation.

Public Art Call for Artists
Artist Opportunity: Lancaster County Transportation Authority (LCTA) Call to Artists!
The Lancaster County Transportation Authority (LCTA), in collaboration with Poetry Paths, a poetry and public art project in the City of Lancaster, the Office of the Mayor, and the City of Lancaster Public Works Department wishes to commission an artist or artist/writer team to create original public art that incorporates poetry for placement at the Lancaster Amtrak station. This call is open to professional artists and artist/writer teams residing in Pennsylvania. Artwork shall be of a suitable outdoor media that is durable, permanent, presents no public safety hazards and can be easily maintained. Materials should be appropriate for the site with an expected life of twenty-five years or more. The total design and fabrication commission will be $75,000. The budget must cover all expenses including design, models if necessary, fabrication, travel and site visits, and installation.

Beauty Flower Poem is surrounded by the past, present and future. The Markle Building contains the decorative floral art nouveau relief patterns and neo-classical revival influences. The Markle Building is known as the first skyscraper in Hazleton. It was built in 1910 with renovations occurring in 1923 and 1928. The future of the current restoration of this structure is important to the revitalization of the Greater Hazleton business community. A century old ceiling was restored. Ms. Dobash created a series of plaster relief sculptures which included saved fragments from the process.Ms. Dobash is willing to loan her art to enhance the work environment for the county employees and citizens to view. This is a collaborative effort between Prothonotary Carolee Medico Olenginski and the artist.Ms. Dobash hopes to promote a positive change within the structure by providing visual art produced by herself and other community pieces created with children from the Southern region of Luzerne County.

Deadline March 5, 2010: The Center for Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), in partnership with NewCourtland, is pleased to offer Philadelphia area artists the opportunity to participate in an exciting, community-based fellowship. Through the NewCourtland Artist Fellowship, eight artists will be selected to bring innovative and engaging art-making to seniors in sites throughout Philadelphia. In order to apply, artists are asked to develop an intergenerational project that brings New Courtland’s residents together with school age children/teens to create a meaningful experience and an high quality artistic project. Work created by residents and their school-aged partners during the 2010 Fellowship Program will be exhibited with the work of the artist fellows in a large, well publicized exhibition entitled Art is Ageless.
Accepted artists will receive a fellowship award of $2,500. Once artists receive this award they will be responsible for conducting ten 1.5 hour workshops, attending several preliminary and post-workshop meetings, attending one sensitivity training session, and participating in the Art is Ageless exhibition in Spring 2011. Artists will also be separately compensated for purchasing all necessary art supplies and professionally presenting the artwork created in their program for the final exhibition.

Women’s Works™ is a juried fine art exhibit, celebrating women artists and is presented annually by the Northwest Area Arts Council (naac). It is our goal, with this show, to focus on women artists of North America. Women’s Works™ provides an opportunity to showcase the creative efforts of women artists.This, the 23rd Anniversary Exhibit of Fine Art by Women – takes place at the Old Court House Arts Center on the Historic Town Square in Woodstock, Illinois. The strength of the show is in you and your participation. We encourage you to submit your work for consideration. Women’s Works has become a much anticipated area event, and the Gala Night Opening Reception sees an excess of 500 people filling the galleries. The show enjoys excellent media coverage and exposure. Along with the Opening Reception, other events are held at The Old Court House Arts Center during the exhibition. As always, running concurrently with this show is the Thirteenth Annual Little Women’s Works featuring (and nurturing) the artistic achievements of young women. The fifth anniversary of Making HerStory is here! We gearing up and getting ready but we can't do it without you. So we're calling on you:
Call for Art:
“Making HerStory 5: the inclination to rise”
The ThickArt Collaborative, LLC, and Neshama Soulworks Stuido, LLC, in conjunction with the Peace & a Cup of Joe Café (Baltimore, Maryland), and Beanetics Coffee Roasters (Annandale, Virginia), and friends, seek submissions for “Making HerStory 5: the inclination to rise.”
Making HerStory celebrates the vast and diverse forms of creativity offered by women artists. Making HerStory highlights art by women in many forms: visual, written and spoken word, and music. This year’s event will mark the fifth annual celebration of women in the arts. In celebration of HerStory’s fifth anniversary, five youth female artists, ages 6-18, will be provided scholarships to participate in this year’s exhibition.
We are seeking submissions of two-dimensional original artwork in any medium that embodies the theme of women’s inclination to rise.” Nude or risqué material will not be accepted. All artwork must be no larger than 30″W x 30″H in size and must be properly wired and ready to hang. Unframed works should have neatly finished edges.
Each venue has limitations of space, so a variety of sizes is preferred. The curators will determine which venue best suits your work. Individual artists may submit up to three works for consideration.
Exhibition Dates
Exhibition dates are March 1, through April 23, 2010. The Grand Opening Reception is scheduled for March 13, 2010, at Peace & a Cup of Joe.
Entry Details
Interested participants shall submit an expression of interest including an artist’s statement (no more than 100 words) and a biographical statement (no more than 100 words); and up to three (3) JPEGs (a resolution of at least 300 dpi prefered) of artwork you propose to include in Making HerStory to herstory@thickart.com and jennifer@soulworksstudio.com. An application form is included for your convenience (send us an email for the attachment).
Deadline
Expressions of interest must be received by January 30, 2010, to be considered. However, early entry is encouraged.
Notification
Selection of exhibiting artists is at the sole discretion of The ThickArt Collaborative and Neshama Soulworks Studio. Artists selected to exhibit will be notified no later than February 7, 2010; however, notification may be provided on a rolling basis from the issuance of this call. Upon notification, exhibiting artists must sign an artist’s agreement with The ThickArt Collaborative and Neshama Soulworks Studio and submit a $25 hanging fee to reserve their place. Installation is scheduled for February 27 & 28, 2010. Instructions for delivery of work shall be included in notification.
Artwork is to be for sale at prices established by the artist. Artist will retain 70 percent of all sales; The ThickArt Collaborative and Neshama Soulworks Studio will receive a commission of 30 percent on all sales.
