Non-profit founder, Nir Saar presented an opportunity for exhibition in an auction:
“I am the founder of a non profit that offers at-risk youth the opportunity to engage in service-learning experiences in their community. They dedicate hours each week to tutoring homeless students, doing clean up projects, etc., and use their experiences to inspire others within their communities to also engage in service work. I wanted to drop a line and see if you'd be interested in contributing a piece (or a couple pieces) to our art show.

We are having an art show at North Bowl on June 19th from 5-8, where we will be showcasing student work alongside professional art work and auctioning the pieces to help support the expansion of this new non profit. The theme we came up with is "Our City, Our People". I think people would be really excited about your work. Would you be at all interested in contributing a piece or two to the show? “

Drop off is June 10, 2009 at Moore during our 7-8 p.m. meeting if members would like to participate. For 3D work, please contact Nir in advance. For further questions, contact Nir at nsaar@stay-true.org.

We met new member, Gina D’Emilio whose work we are looking forward to seeing soon! Check out her Irving Sandler site: http://afonline.artistsspace.org/view_artist.php?aid=8569

We encourage all of our new members to set up their Irving Sandler sites so that we can feature them on our blog and curate shows to include your artwork. If you need directions to set up the site, please email phila_wca@yahoo.com.

We will continue to prepare for the members show and Girls Gotta Run benefit at Holy Family University. All members are eligible to exhibit work on bodies, running, or motion.

The Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF) is a volunteer organization founded in 2006 to raise money to provide support for impoverished Ethiopian girls who are training to be runners. Training to be athletes allows them to stay in school, avoid early marriage, and gain personal independence. Besides athletic shoes, GGRF provides money for training clothes, extra food ("calorie money"), coach subsidies, and other training-related expenses.

For more information, please visit the website www.girlsgottarun.org.

At our meeting, we also discussed Moore’s decision to eliminate the Textile Design major, a major upon which the school was founded. This decision was both shocking and extremely relevant to our new and existing membership. We do hope that you will keep us apprised of news on this issue.

If you would like to contact the board or Happy Fernadez, President of the college, the following contact list has been circulated:
