Sunday, March 3, 2013, 8:30am  A March to Commemorate the 1913 Women's Suffrage Parade -  1. 8:30am - WCADC Members & Friends Meet at the white marble Peace Monument on the west side of the Capitol. The 44-foot-high monument stands in the circle to the west of the Capitol at Pennsylvania Avenue and First Street, N.W. 2. 9:00 a.m. - The Parade begins at the Capitol, proceeds down Pennsylvania Avenue with an assembly on the National Mall for closing remarks. The entire parade route is approximately 3.1 miles. This is a national call for art by women. National Women's Month: Guest Blog from WCA/DC

National Women's Month. WCADC's March chapter event involves participating in a national event of major importance to women nationwide. It is the March on Saturday, March 2 organized by the National Women's History Museum to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Women's Suffrage Movement march in 1913 thatresulted in Women gaining the right to vote. Women's History Month 2013-
The 1913 Suffrage March down Pennsylvania Avenue was a significant turning point in the push for a woman's right to vote. 

If you are in Washington March 1-3 join NWHM and Sewall-Belmont House & Museum in cooperation with AAUW, DAR, and NWHP among others who are working with DC Cultural Tourism, the National Press Club and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority to create a great weekend of activities from March 1-3, 2013.

Linda Denny, a NWHM Board member, is chairing the Committee to kick-off this celebration. In addition to the 2013 March on Sunday, March 3, the events begin on March 1-2 when there will be exhibits, readings and a performance of Take What is Yours, a play about Alice Paul focusing on her arrest, imprisonment and hunger strike in the quest for suffrage. NWHM Commission Legislation -Topping our Priority List is securing the passage of the NWHM Congressional Commission Legislation. With the election of new women Senators and Representatives, we have the largest contingent of women in the Congress in our Nation's History and they bring a new sense of awareness and support for a Museum honoring American Women.

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION : Petition Drive - NWHM, its members and Coalition Partners have turned in 20,000 signatures urging action on our legislation to members of Congress when they return for the 113th Congress. Keep the signatures coming to show your Members of Congress that you support a National Women's History Museum and encourage your members to do the same. Learn about key figures from the historic suffrage parade and the role of the press in helping to turn public opinion in favor of women’s voting rights. Created by the National Women’s History Museum with support from the Sewall-Belmont House & Museum, the exhibit is free and open to the public. Press Club restaurant, The Fourth Estate, is on the 13th Floor and open to the public. The Metro Center Metro stop is two blocks away.

Experience New York theater company anecdota’s special multimedia staged readings of its Off Broadway play about Alice Paul, TAKES WHAT IS YOURS, as a fundraising event for NWHM. Four years in the making and composed in the words of Alice Paul, the National Woman’s Party and documents of the time, the play earned New York Times and Backstage Critics’ Picks and rave reviews. The New York Times dubbed it “a psychological thriller about the woman’s suffrage movement …riveting …powerful.” Being adapted by Erica Fae and Jill A. Samuels for large audiences as a fundraiser for the NWHM, the 70-minute staged reading will feature two actors, video segments from the play, and the stunning original sound score. Journalist Cokie Roberts, author of two books on America’s First Ladies of the infancy of the country, will talk with Professor Catherine Allgor, author of a recent biography of Dolley Madison and Director of Education at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, CA. They will focus on the challenges of telling the stories of the First Ladies. Wine and cheese will be served. Near the Foggy Bottom and Farragut West Metro stops.
