Da Vinci membership dues (not required): $30/year for adults; $20/year for students with valid ID


Kathryn McFadden is a Philadelphia artist, educator, and curator. She earned a certificate in painting and printmaking from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. Represented in both public and private collections, McFadden has a 20-year exhibition record. She is standing faculty at Fleisher Art Memorial and Gloucester County College, and former Director of Rowan University Art Gallery.

Da Vinci Art Alliance is a non-profit artists’ organization located in South Philadelphia. The organization was founded in 1931 to serve the needs of professional artists and artisans in the Delaware Valley. Da Vinci currently has over 150 members and is supported through membership dues, gallery rentals, sales commissions, grants, and donations. It holds exhibitions of members’ and non-members’ artwork as well as special events, workshops, performances, poetry readings, and lectures, and publishes a quarterly newsletter for its members.
PROSPECTUS: “Heroines and Harlots”

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: August 8, 2009

Rules for Entry:
The exhibition is open to all visual artists; work may be in any medium, but must be directly related to the theme. Dimensions may not exceed 36 x 36” for wall pieces, or 36 x 24 x 12” for 3D work. Application must include entry fee of $20 for 1-3 entries for non-members, or $10 for 1-3 entries for current Da Vinci members (and your annual membership dues, if not current, of $30 for adults, $20 for full-time students, with copy of valid ID). Make check payable to Da Vinci Art Alliance; no cash please. Entries may be submitted in the form of slides, photos, or, preferably, digital images on disk (JPEG, pc format), and must be clearly labeled with the artist’s name, title, date, medium, dimensions, retail price or NFS, and an arrow to indicate top of work. Images should be numbered to match entry form. Include a SASE for their return. No glass slides or Mac format entries can be accepted.

Notification of Acceptance and Delivery of Artwork:
All artists will be notified of acceptance or rejection by August 24; accepted art will be due for delivery to Da Vinci Art Alliance on Sunday, August 30, 3-5 pm, or on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 6-8 pm. All work must be prepared for display with hooks and hanging wire; improperly prepared work will not be exhibited. Staff from Da Vinci Art Alliance will install the exhibition beginning at noon on Thursday, September 3, and may ask artists for assistance if artwork requires special attention. Pick-up of unsold work will be on Sunday, Sept. 27, 5-7 pm and Wednesday, Sept. 30, 6-8 pm at Da Vinci, or by arrangement with Director David Foss. Work that is not picked up will be assessed a $2/day storage fee.

Receptions and Gallery Hours:
A reception for the artists and public will be held on Saturday, September 12, 6-9 pm; awards will be presented at the reception. A closing reception will be held on Sunday, Sept. 27, 1-4 pm, in conjunction with a lecture sponsored by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. Da Vinci’s hours are Wednesday, 6-8 pm, and Saturday-Sunday, noon-5 pm. Da Vinci receives a commission of 15% from members and 20% from non-members on any artwork sold from the exhibition, or as a result of contacts made through the exhibition. Da Vinci is responsible for all press releases, price lists, gallery labels, and listings in local media. Artwork will be handled with care, but Da Vinci is not responsible for loss or damage, and all art will be uninsured. Entry and exhibition of art are at the artists’ own risk.
