Upcoming Shows:
"Girls Gotta Run," Holy Family University, October 2-30, 2009. Open to all members in good standing (2009 dues paid). Members will exhibit work to the theme of motion, speed, or running. Exhibit sale benefits Ethiopian girls' teams. Members can decide to donate entire piece or portion of sales to the charity. http://www.girlsgottarun.org/ The show will also be flanked by images of the team in Ethiopia. GGRF has new photos of and updates on the girls on their growing teams, Team Tesfa (http://www.patriciaeortman.com/girlsgottarun/teamtesfa/) and the Simien Girl Runners(http://www.patriciaeortman.com/girlsgottarun/teamggr/) if you are interested in learning more. As you know, the Foundation provides money for athletic shoes, clothing, food and coaches' salaries in order to help girls continue to train and to stay in school. This helps them avoid thepossibility of being forced into early marriage, with its potentially life threatening consequences of too early childbirth and/or vaginal fistula...or worse. For fuller information on the problems faced by many Ethiopian girls, you can read Emily Wax's article (Facing Servitude, Ethiopian Girls Run for a Better Life), downloadable from the Girls Gotta Run website homepage (http://www.girlsgottarun.org/.)---
