Opportunity for SE region/members of DC chapter

Call for Entries: WCA Southeast Region Juried Show
The Women’s Caucus for Art of Greater Washington, DC invites all WCA artists in good standing in the Southeast Region (DC, MD, VA, LA, GA, FL, NC, SC, and SE regional members at large) to enter its September 2009 juried show “From a Woman’s Perspective” at the Edison Place Gallery, a 4,100-square-foot gallery located on the ground floor of Pepco's headquarters building (701 Ninth Street, N.W.) in Washington, D.C. Any two- or three-dimensional work following exhibition guidelines will be considered by the juror. The works selected will be exhibited at the Edison Place Gallery from September 8. 2009 through October 2, 2009. An exhibition catalogue will be available for sale at this time.

Juror: The Juror will be Gretchen Schermerhorn, a printmaker and hand papermaker, currently the Director of the Papermill and Artistic Collaborations at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. She received her MFA in Printmaking from Arizona State University and has completed artist residencies at Columbia College Center for Book and Paper, Seacourt Print Workshop in Northern Ireland, and California State University. Her prints, books and paper works have been exhibited nationally and internationally and her work is in public and permanent collections, including the Janet Turner Print Collection and Amity Art Foundation.

Entry
Entries will be by digital submission in JPEG format, with the longest pixel dimension of the entry at least 2000 pixels, 300 dpi (dots per inch), with an image size of approximately 4” x 6”.
Submission must be received by April 15, 2009.
Submit 1 JPEG image for each entry, with up to three submissions (triptychs or diptychs count as 1) per person.
There will be a hanging fee of $35 for accepted pieces. Checks should be made out to WCA/DC and mailed to Susan Feller once notification of acceptance has been made.
When submitting images, either email the jpegs to sfeller42@gmail.com along with a word document (.doc) with a 30-45 word artist’s statement to be used for the show catalogue, or mail all on a CD disc to: Susan Feller,

a. Please follow up with an email to ensure receipt of submission.
b. Each JPEG file name should include the artist’s last name, first name, and the entry number in that order without spaces or punctuation. Title may be added. Do not use #, $, %, or other similar characters. (e.g., fellers3abstract).
c. The artist’s statement should include name, address, phone number and email address, titles of pieces, dimensions, medium, and prices (or NFS).
CD disc must have the artist’s name in black permanent marker.
There is no size limitation on the actual pieces, but weight will be a consideration in the hanging process.
All pieces will need appropriate wire and screw eye hanging across the back, as the gallery uses a ceiling-based cable and hook system. Any piece not properly finished cannot be considered for the show.
Participants should be members in good standing of the Women’s Caucus for Art.


Notification will be made by email or phone call by April 25, 2009.

Delivery of Accepted Pieces:
1. Local delivery of accepted pieces will take place on Thursday, September3, at the Edison Place Gallery, 701 Ninth Street, N.W., Washington DC, between the hours of 12-4. The gallery is a half block from the Gallery Place Metro Stop, across from the National Portrait Gallery. If you are unable to deliver your piece during these hours, please contact Susan Feller at 301-593-6183 to make other arrangements.
2. Mailed or shipped pieces must be sent to arrive by August 26 and must be packed appropriately to allow for return in the same container at the show’s closing, with appropriate return mailing expenses and labels in an enclosed envelope. Liability
All entries for the exhibit are accepted with the understanding that insurance, if desired, must be carried by the artist. All accepted work will be handled with all possible care, but WCA/DC cannot be responsible or liable for loss or damage from any cause whatsoever.

Sales: WCA/DC will retain a 10% donation from sales. Work cannot be withdrawn before end of show.

September 3 Hand delivered work must arrive at the Edison Place gallery between 12-4.
September 8 First day of exhibition. Gallery hours are Tues-Friday, 12-4.
September 11 5:30-7:30 Reception at Edison Place Gallery.
6:30 - Juror’s talk.
Oct 2 12-4pm Pick up of hand delivered work. There is no storage area so pieces must be picked up on time. If pickup cannot be made, please contact Susan Feller at 301-593-6183 to make other arrangements.
Oct 5-12 Shipped work will be sent during this week (approximate)
