Opportunity from Midwives Collective

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS
ACTING 201: An Intuitive & Imaginative Exploration of Text
Presented by the Midwives Collective & Gallery
Friday, October 9th, 2009 6-10PMYou are invited to participate in, ACTING 201, a photography project curated by members of The Midwives Collective & Gallery, Christiana Kugel, Sarah Hunt, and Elizabeth Smith. A continuation of ACTING 101, presented by The Gallery in 2006, the concept of this project is also inspired by the art of acting improvisation. We anticipate the participation of painters, drawers, printmakers, photographers, filmmakers, and actors, alike. Read more about the project below and reply to Sarah Hunt at themwc@gmail.com by August 15th, 2009 to commit to the project and receive further instruction.
Instructions:
A prompt, or one line script, will be chosen for you at random and sent through the mail. Once it arrives, consider deeply the prompt you were given. Remember that you are at once the photographer, the actor, and the director. You are encouraged to develop your character, get into costume, create the scene. You may even enlist other actors, as long as you remain the subject. Live truthfully under the imaginary circumstances. Think: “conscious spontaneity” (or say it aloud, we don’t care). Then capture the emotional and physical truth of that one moment, all in one 8”x10” color photograph.
Submission Deadline: Thursday, October 1st, 2009.
Exhibition Details:
The show will be up for one night only, Friday, October 9th, 2009 from 6-10PM at the Midwives Collective & Gallery, 1241 Carpenter St., 2nd Fl., Ste. 2, Philadelphia, PA 19147.
