Opportunity: Call for Artists (Deadline 7/30)

Tyme Gallery is calling for artists for their 14th Annual Juried Exhibition, “Inner Essence”. All fine art including relief and photography are eligible for entry. Last year’s entries included artists from the tri-state area. First prize is a solo exhibition in January at Tyme Gallery.

Jurors this year include award winning artists Steve Oliver, Lois Allen Charles, Alice Dustin and Nancy Halbert. This collective body of talent is why Tyme Gallery’s juried exhibition is an honored tradition.

Steve Oliver creates wildlife and nature art, which captures each animal's character and personality. Using acrylics, ink or colored pencils, Steve brings each animal to life in vivid colors and meticulous detail, while surrounding them with a captivating and picturesque background or atmosphere. On April 18, 2009, Steve was honored by winning the 2010 Delaware Duck Stamp Competition. His painting of a canvasback was selected from the 47 entries, sent in by artists from all over the country. The image of this painting is now on the 2010 stamp.

Lois Allen Charles is primarily a self-taught artist and has worked in watercolor, acrylics, and pastel on paper and canvas. Her work has been included in many professional shows over the years and won many awards. Charles’ art is also included in many private and public collections in the United States and Europe and has been featured in Victoriana magazine and twice on the cover ofPhiladelphia Stories magazine.

Alice Dustin is an oil painter who delights in color and the way oil paint can be put down with a brush. Leigh Gustafson of Artists' House Gallery of Philadelphia said Dustin's "enthusiasm comes out of her brush stroke. She has a spontaneous...juicy brush stroke." "She's not afraid to paint. With just a few brush strokes, a simple bowl comes alive," says Larry Toro of Toro Gallery in Huntingdon Valley. Alice Dustin is known for her impressionistic style, a natural result of alla prima painting, done in or outdoors reacting to the subject at hand.

Nancy Halbert, director for the Muse Gallery in Philadelphia an artist run cooperative gallery showing contemporary art for over 30 years. Along with her many accomplishments she was honored with a Citation from the City of Philadelphia for her work as Executive Director of the Community Education Center, a cultural and community arts center in West Philadelphia. According to Victoria Donohoe, art critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer, “Boredom is foreign to Halbert’s paintings-variation, not repetition, is her rule in dealing with the figure. Several of her finest subjects achieve an independent complexity in their rugged, hearty dignity.”

Entries for this upcoming event will be accepted on Friday, July 29th and Saturday, July 30th, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The judging takes place on Sunday July 31st.
