“Oh You Fancy, Huh?’ is a group exhibition highlighting the work of four graduating fiber artists from Tyler School of Art, Temple University.  The exhibition utilizes various fibrous techniques incorporating both sculptural and two-dimensional work. It encourages the creation of contemporary craft and celebrates textile and fiber arts, in conjunction with Fiber Philadelphia 2012.  

Featured artists are Alexis Turner, Kelly Flegal, Christina Lukac, and Caleigh Stednitz. Inspired by Robert Hooke's book "Micrographia", Alexis Turner explores the juxtaposition between the organic forms of cellular structures and the artificiality of microscopic dyes through sculptural and two-dimensional fibrous techniques. Through the re-contextualization of traditional gaming forms and acquired skeletal remains, Kelly Flegal aims to compel the viewer to formulate their own questions as to why individuals place emphasis on symbols of status, trophy, and relic.  Using the process and repetition of wrapping, Christina Lukac seeks to convey a sense of form and texture while simultaneously concealing the object within, highlighting its history in relation to the artist.  In response to decorative arts and wallpaper motifs, Caleigh Stednitz utilizes and abstracts skeletal structures, which are incorporated into patterns that emphasize the curvature of the spine.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 6-9 PM at Always By Design Gallery.  Food and drink will be provided.
