Guest Post: Permanent Wave Philly Events

Happy last day of February!  Try not to be sad as the months fly by because Permanent Wave would like to invite you to a whole slew of March events--from dance parties to photo shoots to open mics. Read on and join us for the last month of our "Create Chaos!" art show and programming at Eris Temple Arts.

DANCE PARTY TO BENEFIT LADYFEST PHILLY

In light of our discussion at the Cocktails, Schmocktails event last month, we're having a dance party! We all agreed that we wanted more spaces to drink and dance freely without all the crap that sometimes comes along with misogynist bar culture. So let's do it! Proceeds benefit Ladyfest Philly, an activism, music, and arts festival happening in Philly from June 7-9, 2013, 10 years after the first Ladyfest Philly!

Consider this a wild and free opportunity to reframe the visual understanding of gender though art!  We'll photograph and be photographed in manners that speak to our mutability as people.  We aim to re-visualize what it means to be a female/male, feminine/masculine or a socially gender-coded subject by being the subjects and creators of our own feminist photo shoot!

To shoot, BYOC(bring your own camera, or $5 to take one of our disposables)

Followed by a live sketch beginning at 3:30PM.

We love DIY fun!  At the last PW skillshare, we learned to screen print, play ukulele, and move in ways we didn't know we could.  Check back on the PW page in the next few days to see what skills we'll be learning this time around.  Get in touch if you've got a skill to share.

ABOUT CREATE CHAOS!

Create Chaos! is a group exhibition presented by Permanent Wave Philly and Eris Temple Arts that showcases female-identified artists, musicians, filmmakers and performers. This show aims to exhibit work and performances based around the theme of chaos and discord from a female perspective.

This multimedia event runs from January 12, 2013 to March 31, 2013 and will feature music and performance events, workshops, film screenings and other out-of-the-box events.

Thanks to all who made it out to this conversation.  We couldn't watch it at the time, but Rebecca recommended this Swedish sex ed video called Sex on the Map if you're wondering what sex-positive sex education can look like.
